Based on personal impressions of the Old Siam that was current fifty years ago, the place of spiritualism and animism among Thais is described, along with Thai manners and values that have changed under the influence of Westerners. Americans in Thailand have had their hands full of mystery and confusion since they first worked with Thai people, neither group knowing how the other group thinks and behaves. The old ways are changing today, with the Americanization of Thailand increasing daily.
