Twisting in the Wind

Joelle is thirty-eight when she meets Malachi. Her life up to this point has been fairly mundane, but this moment is electric, though not necessarily in a romantic way-the connection is deeper, more mysterious.

Strangely, no one else at the party saw him like she did. And without even a name to go on, Joelle has no way to track him down. But soon Malachi crosses Joelle's path multiple times, and it appears that her first instinct was correct.

Meanwhile, Joelle reconnects with her childhood best friend, Hannah. Where Joelle jumped into a string of nondescript jobs right after high school, Hannah went off to college, had a successful law career, and started a family.

But as the old friends work past the awkward reconnecting phase, Hannah reveals that everything hasn't been quite so perfect.
