Two Toes: The Coyote Legend of Green River

Autor Preston Q. Hale
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 14 mar 1999 – vârsta ani
Two Toes is the tale of a wily coyote that was widely pursued by trappers in the sheep country of north-eastern Utah in the early 1940s. The story is actually a fictionalized account of real events in which the author, Preston Q. Hale, played a key role. It vividly depicts life in Utah's sheep country-the ridges and benches of the Uintah Basin through which flows the Green River. The book explores the mystique of the often maligned coyote, making no hero of it, but also showing it to be an animal of great intelligence, a stealthy hunter, dedicated to its mate and pups.

Notă biografică

Preston Q. Hale was born and raised in Boise, Idaho. After college. seasonal work as a foreman in the Civilian Conservation Corps in eastern Utah led to a fifteen year career as a trapper, supervisor and biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Many moves in three states brought the Hale family to Reno where he was the agency's assistant supervisor for Nevada. A diehard westerner, he resigned when asked to move to the east and began a career in commercial real estate. He became one of Nevada's most successful and prominent citizens, playing an important role in the development of northern Nevada in the second half of the 20th century. He has served on numerous boards of directors and has been involved in many civic activities. In 1990 he was named a Distinguished Nevadan by the University of Nevada's Board of Regents.
Now 84 and semi-retired, Preston Hale still remains active in his firm and makes yearly fly fishing trips to his be- loved Utah and Idaho. He began Two Toes when friends and colleagues urged him to write about his experiences with this wily coyote. This is his first book.
