As I began my work on the project to write UNBeatable Marriage, I reflected on the fact that there is no real manual, guide, or formal training on how to create the perfect marriage. For the most part, the marriage many will create with their spouse will be left to chance, a product of what they have observed and quite frankly, what they have not observed in the marriage of their parents. Sadly, for many in today's society, that will include a model of a failed marriage and divorce. Unfortunately, that model represents anything but the perfect or UNBeatable Marriage. I have observed or heard about the marriages of friends, colleagues and acquaintances whose marriages are struggling, failing, or just plain heading the wrong direction. When I hear about these marriages, my heart just breaks and I know that it is preventable. It seems that somewhere along the line in the course of these marriages, the couples lose sight of the very reasons they were married in the first place. Slowly, over time, they seem to stop investing in their marriage and become exclusively focused on raising children, fall into the trap of becoming over committed with work or volunteer activities, start putting off romantic trips until the kids graduate from college, or just begin placing energy and attention in other places besides their marriage. As a result, slowly over time, these marriages quietly begin to suffer and the husband and wife drift apart. Ultimately, they may fall out of romantic love, end up having an affair, wind up divorced, or maybe worst of all, just end up living life in a generally unfulfilling relationship, almost like they're business associates. Who wants that? I know that's not why I was married. I was married because I loved Sharon and was having an absolute amazing, wonderful time with her and wanted to share that love, fun, and friendship for the rest of my life. Isn't that what you wanted when you were married? As I have researched and reflected on the state of nearly 400 marriages, I have concluded that too many couples leave having a happy, healthy, and thriving marriage to chance because they are not trained and equipped on how to have and live the perfect marriage. No training manual exists and by the time a couple may seek "training," it's usually in the form of marriage counseling after struggles have begun to emerge. The mission of UNBeatable Marriage is to train, equip, and support married couples so they too can enjoy the strongest possible marriage. My vision is to see enriched, thriving, and perfect marriages all across the world, divorce as a thing of the past, and to see marriages that are truly fulfilling for both spouses. I want to see all married couples finding the joy of living each day with their best friend, their soul mate, and experiencing romantic love, fun, and adventure. Described as a textbook on how to do marriage and a book you will want to pick up again and again to live in the strongest possible marriage and the marriage of your dreams.
