Recenzii

This book in the Wills Eye Hospital Color Atlas and Synopsis of Clinical Ophthalmology covers ocular inflammation and uveitis. It provides a wonderful opportunity for students and general ophthalmologists to quickly update themselves regarding any uveitis etiology from the standpoint of clinical diagnosis and management.

The aim is to provide an up-to-date, illustrated book that can serve as a reliable and quick reference on all the uveitis entities while providing the basis of ocular inflammation for clinicians, residents, and fellows. The book achieves this aim with its concise text and abundant photos. This is certainly a worthy objective, considering the paucity of time in a busy clinical practice as well as a tight residency or fellowship program. Presenting the material in online format adds value, increasing its accessibility and enhancing its visibility while multiplying the target audience. The online version provides easy-to-access information in an interactive format and opens the gates to the larger body of knowledge that this synopsis summarizes.

The audience is clinical practitioners in ophthalmology, residents, and fellows, and targets uveitis specialists. However, this book will be equally useful for other physicians wishing to brush up their knowledge about the various diseases that have uveitis manifestations. The book is so concise, illustrative, and informative that physicians without ophthalmology training can find it useful.
The authors have decades of experience and are from around the world, which lends the book a global perspective.

The book comprehensively covers every aspect of uveitis, ranging from the basic aspects of ocular immunology required to develop an understanding of the disease process to all the latest information on drug-induced uveitis. The topics are divided based on the anatomical location of uveitis, such as surface, anterior, or posterior, followed by discussions about various etiologies responsible for causing those morphological subtypes. There is very large section on infectious, AIDS-related, and drug-induced uveitis, which makes sense in light of research that has identified uveitis entities that were considered idiopathic in the past as having a specific etiology. The book is extremely engaging because it is precise, brief, and illustrated with high-quality pictures. The format, bulleted two-column text with abundant illustrations, is the strongest aspect of the book.

This book and website are excellent. It is easy to write an elaborate textbook on this topic since there is so much information out there, but it is extremely difficult to write a concise synopsis intended for hurried readers that simultaneously keeps them engaged and provides lasting information. This book does just that.
