Vagabonds in Cleveland centers around four female Slovak cousins who come together to form a modern, high-energy polka band in Cleveland. All in their 20's, each girl is distinct from one another in personality, temperament, sexuality, occupation and life goals. Set in 1994, the story unfolds in chronological vignettes. Local Slovak history is interwoven throughout the story and although the story is "set" in '94, people, places and things from different eras may find themselves in Vagabonds. Because this book ultimately celebrates the oft-overlooked Slovak peoples, various Slovak words and phrases are peppered throughout the text.
