This book offers an academic comparison of the work of two poets, Johannes Bobrowski and Peter Huchel, who wrote during the two German dictatorships of the 20th century. Although the political systems under which these writers worked sought to exert a degree of control over creative output, this book offers an apolitical comparison and analysis of their work. The poetry of Huchel and Bobrowski is read here in the context of German literary history beyond the immediate political context.
