A two book set. Otis takes a personal interest in seeking out an assassin that drives him to the point of a near-maddening obsession. Millorny joins him in the search and together they seek out the accused assassin. Along the way they find a remote village under siege from moon-dwarf attacks. Despite his past valor and defense of the humans, Otis is once again faced with racial hatred for his despised moon-dwarf heritage. His friendship with Millorny is strained when a young woman comes between them. When the fugitive is found, a plot to corrupt the mind's of the people against the newly appointed elven ruler is discovered.
