Recenzii

A more individual approach to modality is shown in Skempton's We who with songs, a setting of the poem by James Elroy Flecker. Skempton skilfully manipulates his triadic building blocks in a wholly original way, evoking the colours of Flecker's rich lyric poetry with a delicate ebb and flow, supported by a wash of gentle organ doubling. For the amateur choir seeking something different but not out of reach technically, this little gem would be a worthwhile investment.
Full marks to Howard Skempton for choosing some sublime English poetry to set . . . There is opportunity here to show off good ensemble singing with well-balanced chords and expressive use of the words.
