The cultivated fields of North Coastal AP region are infested with a large number of weeds that result in heavy crop yield losses.Rice is the most dominant crop of this area.The rice variety RGL-2537 having crop duration of 150-165days,the groundnut crop variety JL-24 having cropduration of 105-110 days and sugarcane crop variety Viswamitra(87A 298)A total of 532 plant species belonging to 308 genera and 80 families were identified as crop land weeds.Of these 382 were dicots,149 monocots and one pteridophyte.Out of 532 species 396 were herbs,36 undershrubs,51 shrubs and 49 falls under climbing category.One species is the new record to AP Poaceae, Fabaceae,Asteraceae,Acanthaceae,Euphorbiaceae, Cyperaceae,Rubiaceae,Lamiaceae,Convolvulaceae, Malvaceae,Amaranthaceae,Commelinaceae, Asclepiadaceae,Scrophulariaceae and Solanaceae were among the largest families represented by more than 10 species each.A total of 200 herbaceous plant species(i.e.65 in rice,78 in sugarcane and 57 in groundnut) occurred in the 3 major cropping systems.This number constitute 70.8% of the total number of the weed species of the world.
