Hailey and her boyfriend expected their lives to change dramatically when they moved from the Midwestern United States to Hong Kong. What they could never predict was how different every little thing would be. While they adjusted to the unfamiliar food, language, weather, sights and sounds of Hong Kong, they explored their new surroundings and adapted to a culture that is both ancient and modern. One of the many unexpected twists in their journey came when Hailey's boyfriend took a job in Mainland China. Soon they were not only adapting to an exotic culture, but they were also trying to maintain a long distance relationship in two very different cities that are supposedly in the same country but practically in different worlds. Along the way they met a lot of interesting people, battled bureaucracy, learned to haggle, jumped off a building, found a nude beach, crashed a train and nursed a few ailments and injuries.
