The process of welding by coated electrode, called SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) by AWS (American Welding Society), is a pioneer in the permanent union of metals through the use of electric arc, being also the most used process in the world in all periods and industrial sectors. Its importance within the production process chain is twofold: practicality and quality in the criteria of mechanical resistance, with vast application in industry, in civil construction, and in other areas of engineering.
