"What About the Rest of Us" offers a model for political change that is the driving force behind The Independence Party. Frank MacKay, New York State and national chairman of the party, offers a simple and straightforward platform that promotes political independence and "centered and pragmatic leadership. He writes, "Irrational government expansion has taken place throughout 150 years of two-party control of the nation's governmental institutions, and it has grown so large and so unwieldy that the People have become apathetic. They simply believe they can't change the system. I would argue that our federal bureaucracy has become so large and disjointed that our elected leadership in Washington, DC have lost a significant amount of control over the management of government affairs and our tax dollars. We the People have to be able to rest some of the blame for this chaos with the two major political parties that have overseen the evolution of the bureaucracy."
