What's Wrong with My Plants?

en Limba Engleză Paperback
This book is intended to be a guide for new and experienced gardeners on the management of different vegetables that we grow in the garden. It discusses the different vegetables, their environmental needs, fertility needs, insect and disease problems, and physiological problems. Much of the information discussed will be scientific information based on thirty years of training of the author through his profession as a County Agricultural Agent with the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service. After retiring from the University of Georgia he worked nine years part-time at Goldkist Garden Center, eleven years part time with Southern States Garden Center, and is presently working part-time at Southern Home and Ranch-all located in Carrollton, Georgia. The author also works as a private consultant. Some of the information may even be classified as "Old Wives Tales." They are called this because they have no scientific background. However, through a basic understanding of plant needs we can see how some of these remedies do actually work. Others may appear to be useless, but still it is helpful to know them so as not to be taken in when someone tells you what they call a new remedy. A portion of this book deals with some of the more than 40,000 questions answered by the author. During his years as a County Agent, he had the opportunity to answer over 40,000 questions, recorded over 5,000 radio programs, wrote over 1,200 news articles and gave hundreds of lectures. These experiences provided an opportunity to hear the real questions that people want answers to. In the question and answer sections, the author wants to answer those questions not easily found in textbooks and planting guides. The questions and answers are shown with the applicable crop. "Carl Brack is a Georgia treasure. What's Wrong with My Plants? will rapidly become a top-tiered manual for master gardeners and backyard novices alike. Carl provides a deep well of common sense and wisdom from which every agriculturally inclined reader should draw." - Gary Black, Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture "If you look up 'Practical' in the dictionary, it should say 'See the entry for Carl Brack.' Carl has distilled his knowledge from several decades of personal vegetable gardening, and advising other vegetable gardeners, into a uniquely practical book. His advice on growing Southern vegetables is succinct, based on research, and tempered with experience. If you're looking for success in your garden (and who isn't?), Carl's tips will guide you there." - Walter Reeves, gardening writer, radio/TV host The author of this book is Carl Brack, Sr. He was born in Portal, Georgia and graduated from Portal High School in 1953. He attended ABAC College at Tifton, Georgia. He then attended the University of Georgia where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry in 1960. He later went back to the University of Georgia where he received a Master of Agriculture Extension in 1969. Mr. Brack served his country by joining the National Guard in 1953. He served in the Guard for nine years. His primary job during his eighty years was with the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service where he served for almost thirty years.
