When Darla Hit

Autor R, Grace Comyns
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 dec 2006
When Darla Hit is set throughout the United States and Canada, in the last four decades of the twentieth century. The book chronicles the adventures of Rose Leander, a gutsy Vermont woman who has survived a tumultuous childhood, bouts of depression, and periods of poverty. After deciding to become a nun, she joins the Catholic Church at age thirteen, and spends four years in a Parochial High School trying to understand and accept the teachings. After graduation, not wanting to stay in a small town and marry some immature dullard as many of her friends were doing, she moves to Connecticut and marries one there. After that marriage fails, she manages to become a successful business owner in the male-dominated world of general contracting, hoping to find happiness through success. While maintaining determination and a keen sense of humor, she raises her two children as she struggles through several more unhappy, and somewhat abusive marriages. Her psychic abilities are downplayed, as are the religious and historical details of the book, making this novel both mysterious and profound. The second chapter of When Darla Hit rings with reality as the author describes her incredible, though somewhat dysfunctional family, and memorializes her remarkable mother. After the death of an older brother, Rose travels to the gulf coast of Florida to settle his estate. Darla, a category four hurricane strikes the area. Our protagonist is seriously injured during the storm, which wreaks havoc on the Sunshine State. Her brothers attorney, Ben, gains her trust and becomes her hero as he nurses her back to health from her injuries, all the while waiting to be rescued. During this frightening ordeal the two fall madly in love, eventually settling into a carefree lifestyle in Vermont. As the seasons unfold and natural wonders abound, they search for the perfect place to live. Their happiness is interrupted when Ben is compelled to travel to New York City for a meeting with his family attorney. The meeting is scheduled on September 11th, 2001 at the World Trade Center.Of course that's not the end of the story. You'll want to read the book to learn the fate of our characters. We promise you won't be bored.
