Notă biografică
John Lanchester wurde am 25. Februar 1962 in Hamburg geboren und ist ein britischer Schriftsteller.
Lanchester wuchs in Hong Kong und England auf und besuchte unter anderem das St. John's College in Oxford. Nach seiner Ausbildung begann er als Redakteur beim Verlag Penguin Books, bevor er zur "London Review of Books" wechselte. Außerdem war er als Restaurantkritiker, Kolumnist und Autor für verschiedene Zeitungen und Zeitschriften tätig.
Schon sein 1996 veröffentlichter Debütroman "The Debt to Pleasure" wurde viel beachtet und mit Literaturpreisen ausgezeichnet. Es folgten regelmäßig weitere Werke, u.a. der autobiografisch geprägt Roman "Family Romance".
2012 gelang Lanchester in Deutschland der Durchbruch mit dem Roman "Kapital", englisch "Capital", über das Leben in der Großstadt zur Zeit der Finanzkrise. Diese ist auch Thema seines 2010 erschienenen Buches "Whoops! Why Everyone Owes Everyone and No One Can Pay" sowie des zuletzt veröffentlichten Werks "How to Speak Money: What the Money People Say - And What It Really Means" aus dem Jahr 2014.
John Lanchester ist mit der Historikerin und Autorin Miranda Carter verheiratet, hat zwei Kinder und lebt in London.
