Why Culture Matters - An Empirical Study of Working Germans and Mexicans

Autor Sonja Schütz
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 ian 2009
This book is proving the inter-relation between resistance and a person's cultural background. It draws attention to the impact national culture has universally, and makes suggestions concerning behavior and attitudes guaranteeing successful collaboration of Germans and Mexicans. With the help of an empirical study it demonstrates how resistance derives from insensitivity and wrongful communication and or lack of behaving in accordance with cultural background when proposing or forcefully implementing change. This reaction could be minimized or even prevented, if cultural background, reasoning and sources for behavior, as well as action and communication are understood correspondingly. The importance and impact of national culture implies the need to reveal the own as well as grasp the counterpart's cultural imprints to prevent resistance from arising due to a lack of cultural understanding. The book also aims to raise awareness for the backgrounds and motives of "Mexican behavior" from a German point of view and will conclude with a manual for successful behavior within the culture and country of Mexico. A special focus is set on communication. The conclusions of this study stress that individual solutions lead to success and therewith raise awareness for individual approaches to solving problems arising from differences of national cultures and its members.
