The first three pieces deal with the political, social, and legal rights of women in the pre-Christian, Norman, and English periods; the last seven with attitudes of and toward women in politics, labor, the Church, and the family in the 19th and 20th centuries. Each essay is aimed at the general reader, but footnotes, suggestions for further reading, and an index make this a fine basic text for the reseacher in Irish and women's studies as well.?-Library Journal
