Hilda Martindale C.B.E. (1875–1952), formerly of the Home Office and H. M. Treasury. She was one of the first female civil servants in Britain and campaigned throughout her life to improve working conditions, particularly for women.

Descriere
Originally published in 1938, this title tells the story of women as they became an integral part of the Civil Service, work previously reserved for men. As the functions of government widened and the activities of the Civil Service touched the lives of people in more ways, it was felt there were many opportunities for women.
