World Parliament
Autor Ammendola, Claudia, Diodati, Tina, Romolo Perrottaen Limba Engleză Paperback
Although some nations enjoy technological progress and wealth, residents of other nations lack basic necessities, which highlights the reality that humanity suffers under the weight of heavy and unacceptable contradictions. Decades ago, the attempts to bring all of humanity under the protection of a single institution--an institution that would protect everyone's rights--culminated in the United Nations. Unfortunately, the United Nations encounters considerable limitations. Thus, M. Capanna, J. Galtung, and G. Monbiot developed the new idea of a world parliament able to confront global problems more efficiently. This world parliament would be a new, necessary, democratic, and, above all, functional institution. A group of students from the small University della Calabria in Italy believed that it is possible to sensitize people to and publicize the idea of a world parliament. Thus, the students carried out a global survey. The results of the survey are quite informative, interesting, and useful in understanding that a world parliament is not only possible but also necessary. The United Nations, many other international associations, and volunteer initiatives are the starting point, but there is still much more to be done. We must start by facing the everyday reality, increasing awareness, spreading knowledge, and initiating discussions and debates on this subject.
