LOYD E. LEE is Professor of History and Chair of the department at the State University of New York, College at New Paltz. He is the author of The War Years: A Global History of the Second World War (1989), The Politics of Harmony: Civil Service, Liberalism and Social Reform in Baden, 1800-1850 (1980), and other publications on German and global history.
