Yemen into the Twenty-First Century: Continuity and Change

This book focuses on recent developments in the Republic of Yemen. Yemen is currently evolving with new institutions, confronting new challenges, and undergoing significant change in many aspects of its economy and society, both in domestic and international terms. Despite the fact that there has been a massive growth in interest in Yemen during the past decade, recent literature has principally focused upon the political developments of liberalization, democratization, party politics, and elections, while leaving the economic, social, and legal developments uncovered. Policy issues are thoroughly addressed, including the IMF/World Bank sponsored structural adjustment program, and issues of economic strategy and the environment.
