A Journey to Disillusionment

Autor Sherbaz Khan Mazari Editat de Shehryar Mazari
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 30 ian 2002
Though primarily the memoirs of a leading Opposition figure during the Bhutto and zia eras, the book is also, in part, a history of Pakistan written with an uncommonly frank and original perpective. The book begins with the start of Sirdar Sherbaz Mazari's career in politics as a young man entering the fray in opposition to the Ayub Khan government, against a background of events that shaped the history of the country. This is followed by an account of the Bhuttoand Zia periods. The author provides a unique insider's description of the Opposition's dealings with Bhutto and makes interesting revelations about the leading political players and the events of those tumultuous times, which eventually led to Bhutto's ouster in 1977. Much is also revealed aboutZia's long rule and his relations with the Opposition. Sirdar Sherbaz Mazari lives up to his reputation as a man of integrity by being direct and forthright. The author's eventual disillusionment can be determined from the title of this book.

Recenzii

essential reading ... Mazari ... has managed ... to produce something of a classic.
honest, balanced and readable. ... This book opens the lid, perhaps for the first time by an insider, on the murky world of Pakistani politics. Coming from an author who hailed from a background which has dominated the political scene in Pakistan since independence, the book and the story are even more remarkable.
His description of Pakistan's journey to disillusionment is touchingly accurate... Superbly researched, written and annotated.
