A Prehistoric Ritual Complex at Eynesbury, Cambridgeshire: East Anglian Archaeology Occasional Papers, cartea 17

Autor C. J. Ellis Michael J. Allen, Phil Andrews
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 30 noi 2004
Excavations in 2000-2001 at Eynesbury to the south of St Neots revealed the remains of a Neolithic and Bronze Age ritual ceremonial and funeral complex. Specifically, two early Neolithic cursus enclosures, an early Neolithic hengiform ring-ditch, a Neolithic long barrow, another Neolithic funerary monument, early Bronze Age urned and unurned burials and a large late Bronze Age enclosure were uncovered. A Romano-British agricultural landscape and seven Saxon sunken-featured buildings were also recorded. Supported by photographs of the excavation in progress and its important discoveries, the paper examines each phase of ritual activity in turn. Specialist reports present the finds and environmental remains from each monument and discuss the physical environment of the site during prehistory. Other sections examine the human remains and the site's chronology while a final chapter comprises a synthesis of the complex's development and use through history.
