Tom Murphy's plays include On The Outside, A Whistle in the Dark, Famine, The Morning After Optimism , The Sanctuary Lamp The Blue Macushla, Conversations on a Homecoming, Bailegangaire, Too Late for L ogic, The Wake and an adaptation of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard. Tom Murphy's career was celebrated by the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, with a major retrospective of his work in 2001. His Awards include Th e Irish Academy of Letters Award, the Irish Times/ESB Lifetime Award, the Irish Times/ESB Theatre Aw ard. He was born in Tuam Co. Galway. He lives in Dublin.
