Merrill D. Whitburn, Ph.D. (1973), is Professor Emeritus and former Louis Ellsworth Laflin Professor of English and Chair of the Department of Language, Literature, and Communication at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His publications in rhetoric include Rhetorical Scope and Performance (2000).
