Band of Brothers, Then and Now

Autor Frank A. Fear
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 10 apr 2023
Fifty-plus years ago, Frank Fear was a fan in the stands at Mountaineer Field, watching his heroes play. Now he shifts roles, relaying the story of an era of Mountaineer football that describes many of the good things associated with college football. There is gridiron success, impressive leadership from head coaches Jim Carlen and Bobby Bowden, and uplifting stories about how coaches and players lived their lives. There is continuity, too. A half-century later, these men are still connected, a self-proclaimed "Band of Brothers." Part autobiographic, part historical, and loaded with voices of those who participated back then, Band of Brothers, Then and Now is an engaging read. It is about a time, a place, and an extraordinary group of West Virginia University Mountaineers.

Frank Fear is a lifelong sports fan who believes there is more to sports than winning. That is why Band of Brothers, Then and Now, is about college football and much more. Frank began writing about sports as a high school student in Batavia, NY. He continued writing at St. John Fisher College in nearby Pittsford, NY, where he was the sports editor of the college newspaper and an assistant to the sports information director. After earning an M.A. at WVU and Ph.D. at Iowa State, Frank spent nearly forty years as a professor and administrator at Michigan State University. Now an emeritus professor, Frank has returned to his sports writing roots at The Sports Column, an online publication where fans can publish full-length sports articles.
