Recenzii
Biography and History is succinct, thoughtful, addresses the right sort of issues and is readable and stimulating for students. This new edition is a fresh but subtle revision, that brings themes up to date, reflects on trends, and some important shifts which have taken place since the first edition.
Barbara Caine explores biography's relations with history in a study which covers major topics and authors: informed, lucid and thoughtful, she provides a digest of key ideas and raises important new questions about how individual lives are being read as history.
Barbara Caine's admirably clear and concise book is both a stimulating analysis of the relationship between biography, on the one hand, and history and autobiography, on the other, and a manifesto for the importance of the individual life history as a genre.
