Victor Tanasa a dat nota:
"We looked at the village. I saw nothing that did not turn my stomach". The Chronicles grew on me a lot over the course of the three novels. At first, I was a bit put off by the very concise style of the author, but that quickly evolved into something considerably better, that I thoroughly enjoyed. As the books are written in the first person, the author's voice is also Croaker's, the keeper of the Annals of the Black Company, the main character of the series so far. Croaker is fun to follow, as his feelings, thoughts and predictions influence the way the Annals are written. We see events through the eyes of a flawed man, jaded of the violence around him, full of contradictions and split loyalties. Sometimes he can be angry or retrospective but a surprisingly lot of time he's quite amusing. We also have some colorful side characters, such as the ever bickering and humorous wizards Goblin and One Eye; there's Raven, a mysterious new prospect of the Company; Shed, the cowardly inn keeper, and of course a great villain in the powerful and seductive Lady. Each self-contained story has a solid plot, with well written endings. The worldbuilding is nothing to write home about, but it does provide an interesting enough background for the action. A winner.
