Comparative Atlas of Endoscopic Ear Surgery: Training Techniques Based on an Ovine Model
Editat de Marco Bonali, Livio Presutti, Daniele Marchionien Limba Engleză Paperback – 29 mar 2022
The transcanal endoscopic approach for the management of middle and inner ear pathologies is being increasingly used, but in some countries the lack of human specimens makes adequate training in this field difficult: in response, the book introduces a novel method performed on the animal model, which allows trainees to improve their skills, while reducing the cost of surgical training. It provides a full description of specimen preparation, and comparative anatomical and radiological analyses of the human and ovine models, guides readers through the main otologic operative techniques (e.g. canalplasty, miringoplasty and ossiculoplasty) step by step, and illustrates the best approach to the internal auditory canal.
Written by prominent experts in the field, this atlas serves as a unique reference resource for residents and young surgeons wishing to acquire first-hand the skills needed for endoscopic procedures and to improve their learning curves.

Notă biografică
Dr. Bonali Marco is an ENT specialist, working at the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in the University Hospital in Modena, Italy. He is tutor in national and international dissection courses about endoscopic ear surgery. His main interest in the field of otorhinolaryngology is related to otology and neurotology and to the development of training methods for surgery. He performs endoscopic ear surgery procedures regularly. Dr Bonali published various scientific papers in national and international journals and participated as co-author to the writing of several chapters in ENT books.
Professor Daniele Marchioni is the Director of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University Hospital of Verona, Italy. He’ s professor and chairman of the Otorhinolaryngology unit, and president of the logopedics degree course. He has performed more than 8000 surgical procedures focused on skull base approaches, as well as otologic surgery and major oncologic surgery. He is a pioneer in the field of new endoscopic techniques regarding middle ear and exclusive or combined approaches to lateral skull base. He published more than 100 papers on national and international journals and book chapters. Prof. Marchioni is co-foundator and board member of the International working group on Endoscopic middle ear Surgery (IWGEES). Invited speaker in several international meetings, he is also faculty member and tutor in international dissection courses on endoscopic ear surgery. Professor Livio Presutti is Chairman and head of the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Oftalmolgy, Maxillofacial surgery, Plastic surgery, and Neurosurgery of Modena General Hospital and Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia since 2003. He is the Director of Otolaryngology’s Residency Program at Modena University. He is co-founder and former President of the International Working Group on Endoscopic Middle Ear Surgery and head of a multidisciplinary team (including radiologists, oncologists, pathologists and radiotherapists), which each week deliberates on the optimal therapeutic approach in cases of head and neck cancer. He has more than 30 years of experience in endoscope-assisted paranasal sinus surgery, microscope-assisted oto-neurosurgery and laryngeal surgery and pioneered endoscope-assisted middle ear surgery and cerebellopontine angle surgery, as well as the use of new devices such as the 3D system, CO2 fiber laser and piezoelectric surgery. He has published more than 180 articles in national and international journals.

Textul de pe ultima copertă
This unique, richly illustrated atlas offers a “how-to” reference guide to the most common and innovative endoscopic surgical procedures for the middle and inner ear, based on an ex vivo ovine model. Moreover, it compares this model to the same approaches in humans, underlying the essential surgical tips and tricks.
