Computer Arithmetic: Algorithms and Hardware Implementations

Autor Mircea Vlăduţiu
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 29 sep 2012
The subject of this book is the analysis and design of digital devices that implement computer arithmetic. The book's presentation of high-level detail, descriptions, formalisms and design principles means that it can support many research activities in this field, with an emphasis on bridging the gap between algorithm optimization and hardware implementation. The author provides a unified view linking the domains of digital design and arithmetic algorithms, based on original formalisms and hardware description languages.
A feature of the book is the large number of examples and the implementation details provided. While the author does not avoid high-level details, providing for example gate-level designs for all matrix/combinational arithmetic structures.
The book is suitable for researchers and students engaged with hardware design in computer science and engineering.

Recenzii

From the reviews:
“The objective of the book is to give a fundamental understanding of the principles of analysis and design of computer arithmetic devices. … The monograph is very well designed as a textbook for students and as a handbook for researchers and engineers of computer architecture and hardware.” (Telman Aliev, Zentralblatt MATH, Vol. 1255, 2013)

Notă biografică

Mircea Vladutiuis a professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of “Politehnica” University of Timisoara. He is responsible for courses such as Computer Architecture, Computer Fundamentals, Computer Engineering and others. Many of these courses were introduced for the first time in the country in the computing curriculum. Under his supervision 23 Ph.D. theses were finalized and defended in the domain of Computer Science. He also coordinated the scientific research activity as head of the Timisoara’s branch of the “Research & Development for Automation Equipment and Systems”.

Descriere

The subject of this book is the analysis and design of digital devices implementing computer arithmetic. The high detail level, the description procedure and formalism, along with the design principles are making up for a structure that could well underpin any research activity in this field. The main emphasis is put on bridging the gap between algorithm optimization and hardware implementation. This book provides a unitary procedure in linking the digital design and arithmetic algorithms domain, being based on original formalism and hardware description languages. Another aspect is the large number of examples provided. The book avoids being hard to follow by providing enough implementation details.
