Conducting: The Art of Communication provides the most comprehensive treatment available of all aspects of instrumental conducting: technical, analytical, and expressive. I see this book as the staple text for our two-semester conducting sequence. I really like the verbal explanations for the subjective aspects of conducting (i.e., facial expression, body movement, resistance, hinges, melding gestures, gestures of syncopation, etc.). I have never seen these concepts addressed in a textbook.
