Durban-born Wanda Hennig worked as an investigative, lifestyle and hard-news reporter and feature writer on newspapers in South Africa and as a feature writer and bureau chief for the South African edition of Cosmopolitan magazine (and editor of Cosmo Man) before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area.She is is a widely published travel, food and lifestyle writer/photographer and a certified life coach with a niche focus on relationships and life transitions. As a writer, editor, photographer and communications professional, Wanda has notched up more than 25 years hands-on experience on consumer magazines and newspapers and in corporate and nonprofit communications, both in South Africa and the United States.Her first US green card job was as special features editor at Napa-based Appellation (Wine Country Living) magazine (which folded). She was Northern California editor of five editions of AgeWave's Get up and Go! (that got up and went). She was, for a time, editor of the San Francisco East Bay's Diablo magazine and later, editor of Black Diamond Living magazine (which folded). She was on the copy desk of the Oakland Tribune for a while and editor of San Francisco-based Bechtel's corporate magazine. She has contributed extensively to Oakland and Alameda magazines and contributes regularly to Cuisine Noir magazine, online and print editions. She also writes for examiner.com.Her public persona has long been her byline on stories covering a sweeping array of issues (for publications in the U.K., Hong Kong and Australia as well as South Africa and the U.S.). She is a former San Francisco Bay Area Travel Writes board member.She has post-graduate degrees in psychology and education from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Prior to becoming a journalist she worked in the university's psychology department as a graduate assistant and part-time lecturer. She has a graduate degree from the same university with majors in English literature and psychology and a minor in political science. She trained and certified as a co-active (life) coach at the Coaches Training Institute in California more than eight years ago. She has run workshops at the Buddhist Retreat Centre in Ixopo, South Africa. Her formal Zen practice includes three-and-a-half years spent as a resident (monk) at the San Francisco Zen Center.In Cravings: A Zen-inspired memoir about sensual pleasures, freedom from dark places, and living and eating with abandon, she draws on her writing, psychology, life coaching and Zen background.
