Creating and Re-Creating Corporate Entrepreneurial Culture

Autor Alzira Salama
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 12 aug 2016
Entrepreneurship is often considered only in the context of new venture creation, small business issues, and the profiles and personalities of individual entrepreneurs. The emphasis in Creating and Re-Creating Corporate Entrepreneurial Culture is very much on the 'corporate', it focuses on the creation and maintenance of an entrepreneurial management culture that accelerates growth and enhances effectiveness and competitiveness in large organizations. Alzira Salama explains what constitutes entrepreneurial behaviour, how it is facilitated by organizational culture and why entrepreneurial corporate culture is fundamental to business success. She takes you through ways of identifying prevailing cultures and explains how cultures are reinforced or changed. Drawing on exemplary case studies from around the world, she tells the stories both of successful and unsuccessful interventions made in response to the need to move on from bureaucratic or authoritarian cultures. These include specific instances where the context has been privatization, merger and acquisition, transition in the wider economy, or a combination of any of these circumstances. This enlightening book will help managers and consultants, business educators, higher level students and those on executive programmes to understand the nature of an organization's culture, why it is as it is, whether it needs to change, and how it might be changed. Alzira Salama offers real world examples of how to create or re-create an entrepreneurial culture together with tools that will enable corporations to achieve it.

Recenzii

'In the days of global rebalancing when emerging market economies contribute more economic growth than the developed ones, the need for innovation and entrepreneurship among established businesses is ever-increasing. This book provides very useful cases of entrepreneurial behaviour and practices, emphasising the importance of corporate culture, with insights which can well serve as recipes for success for many corporate executives.' Yury Bikbaev, Director, LSE Executive Education, London School of Economics ’Alzira Salama's book is an excellent introduction to corporate culture change. It is very logical and structured with clear diagrams. It is always easy to read. It is well referenced throughout and clearly directs the reader through its 13 chapters. There is an excellent bibliography at the end of each chapter and at the end of the book which will direct the reader to all the major texts and papers in this area of study. The book is also beautifully printed and bound...Those who are looking for a clear presentation of corporate culture change with up to date, real life examples - both successful and less successful - will find this book very informative and extremely useful. Those involved in teaching such courses will find the case studies invaluable as a focus for evaluation and discussion. Those who are tasked with organising and supporting any form of cultural change - HR professionals, consultants, managers - should read this book before beginning any such initiative. If none of these apply then the book is still a good read. Entrepreneurial behaviour and corporate culture directly affects us all - as anyone who has ever had to deal with any of the organisations cited in the case studies will testify.’ Dr Mike Kearsley, European School of Economics
