Martin Mnnich interprets Ludwig Wittgensteins philosophy as a critique of culture. This critique stands in the Socratic tradition of thinking which pursues caring for successful conduct of life as its the central theme. Understood in this Socratic way, philosophy is an ethical endeavor which has to always be measured against its value for a meaningful life. In strong contrast, Wittgensteins philosophy is very often seen as a work of protoscience or somehow superior science. This is a false claim about Wittgensteins thinking and it is symptomatic of a wide range of academic philosophy having lost its relevance for everyday peoples lives. Wittgenstein himself criticized this loss and tried his best to counteract it.
