Alexander Lacroix is your typical teenager who lives in Detroit with his single mother. After a tragic event he is forced to relocate to Savannah, Ga with a father he barely knows. Moving to Savannah sets in motion a chain of events 150 years in the making. Alex has to deal with constant run-ins with a racist white family member, a tumultuous relationship with his father, and the discovery of his ancestral plantation. All of this leads to a botched suicide attempt that literally brings him face to face with his past.
