It is also available in several other languages, in both monolingual and bilingual versions. Summary in English: Dylan is an American boy like many others. One thing makes him special, though: his parents come from other countries and speak to him in different languages. It's his birthday today and he receives a very unusual present, only to lose it shortly after. Together with his best friend Emma, a sweet bilingual girl born to South African parents, Dylan sets out to find his lost birthday present. During their search, the two friends learn about the value of friendship, of speaking different languages, and of appreciating one's own as well as others' cultural and linguistic background. If you are looking for a children's book in Irish that will help your child see the value in speaking other languages, in being multicultural, and that will hopefully get them excited about learning languages, this book is a great choice. Summary in Irish (Gaeilge): Is buachaill Meiriceánach é Dylan. Ach tá rud amháin speisialta faoi: is as tíortha eile iad a thuismitheoirí agus labhraíonn siad teangacha eile leis. Inniu lá breithe Dylan agus is neamhghnáthach an bronntanas a fhaigheann sé, ach ní fhada go dtéann an bronntanas sin ar iarraidh. Téann sé fhéin agus a dhlúth-chara Emma, cailín deas atá dhá theangach, agus ar as an Afraic Theas a tuismitheoirí sa tóir ar an mbronntanas atá imithe amú. Le linn dóibh a bheith ag tóraíocht faigheann an beirt cara tuiscint ar an luach a bhaineann le cairdeas, le teangacha éagsúla a labhairt, agus le meas a bheith ag duine ar a chúlra cultúrtha agus teangeolaíocht fhéin agus dhaoine eile.

Victor D.O. Santos, PhD is an award-winning author, a language-learning expert, and a father to two multilingual and trilingual children. He is best known as the author of the picture book 'What Makes Us Human'. All of Victor's fun and beautifully illustrated children's books serve to show children the importance of respecting one another, believing in their true potential, and of trusting the power of love. My Dad, My Rock is based on Victor's personal family history and the first words in the book were actual words he heard from his son on a starry Saturday night during bedtime reading.
