The volume includes 30 contributions from the 3rd International Workshop on Advanced Dynamics and Model Based Control of Structures and Machines representing the frontiers in the mechanics of controlled machines and structures. The Workshop, held in Perm, Russia in September 2017 continued a series of international workshops, starting in with the Japan - Austria Joint Workshop on Mechanics and Model Based Control of Smart Materials and Structures, the Russia - Austria Joint Workshop on Advanced Dynamics and Model Based Control of Structures and Machines and the first two editions of the International Workshop on Advanced Dynamics and Model Based Control of Structures and Machines. The previous workshops took place in Linz, Austria in September 2008 and April 2010, in St. Petersburg, Russia in July 2012 and in Vienna, Austria in September 2015. The up-to-date contributions are authored by internationally re-known leading experts in dynamics and control representing a broad spectrumof topics in the field of Advanced Structures and Machines; both, with respect to theoretical aspects as well as applications to contemporary engineering problems.

Notă biografică
Hans Irschik obtained his Doctoral Degree and the Habilitation in „Mechanics“ from the Vienna University of Technology. Since 1991, he worked as Full Professor of „Technical Mechanics“ at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz (JKU Linz), where he headed several peer-reviewed fundamental and applied research projects. From 1995 -2000, he served as Vice-Rector for Research, and from 2009-2013 as Chair of the Senate of JKU Linz, were he became Professor Emeritus in 2019. Hans Irschik is highly interested in both, fundamental research, and the mutual scientific transfer between industry and universities. Since 1995, he is continuously working as a Scientific Senator in the Austrian "ChristianDoppler Research Fund", which is devoted to excellence in Applied Science, and where he serves as Chair of the Senate since 2017. Hans Irschik is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications in a broad field of mechanics and mechatronics. He is a member of the advisory board of several international scientific journals. Since 2005, he serves as Editor of the international journal “Acta Mechanica“ published by SpringerNature. In 2006, he became a Fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Sciences. In 2007 he was elected as a Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), and in 2011 he became a Full Member of ÖAW. Since 2015, he is Member of Academia Europaea. In 2009, he was awarded as Honorary Doctor of the St. Petersburg State University of Technology, Russia, and in the year 2019 he was elected as Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
Michael Krommer holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences from the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU), from which he also received his Habilitation in Technical Mechanics in 2007. From 1997-2014 he was teaching and conducting research at the Institute for Technical Mechanics at JKU headed by Prof. Hans Irschik; first as an Assistant Professor, then as an Associate Professor. He spent one year (2002/2003) as a MAX-KADE fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences at the Pennsylvania State University. From 2014-2020 he was a Full Professor for Mechanics of Solids at the Institute of Mechanics and Mechatronics at TU-Vienna. In 2020 he returned to JKU Linz succeeding Prof. Hans Irschik as Full Professor for Technical Mechanics and he joined the Symbiotic Mechatronics research center in Linz as the scientific head of the research area „Mechanics and Control“.
