En 1959, C. S. Lewis dictó una conferencia a los estudiantes de Cambridge en la que atacaba teólogos que “afirman que ven las semillas de helecho y no pueden ver un elefante a diez metros a plena luz del día”, por lo tanto el título Esporas de helecho y elefantes.
Estos siete ensayos muestran a Lewis en su momento más pletórico, defendiendo con su inigualable prosa su visión de un cristianismo ortodoxo y auténtico. Fern-Seed and Elephants
In I959, CS. Lewis read a paper to students at Cambridge attacking theologians who “claim to see fern-seed and can’t see an elephant ten yards away in broad daylight” therefore the title Fern-Seed and Elephants. 
These seven essays show Lewis at his most vigorous, defending his vision of a full-blooded, orthodox Christianity in his matchless prose style. Among the subjects he addresses are the difference between forgiveness and excusing, the individual “member” of the Christian Body, “The World’s Last Night”, and the implications of there being life on other planets.
