Senior citizens and their varied experiences have, for the most part, been obscured by stereotypes. Faces of Aging foregrounds a spectrum of elder-centered issues—social activity, caregiving, generational bias, suicide, sexuality, and communication with medical professionals, to name a few—from the perspective of those who are living them. Yoshiko Matsumoto is associate professor of Japanese in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures and, by courtesy, in the Department of Linguistics, at Stanford University. She is an affiliate of the Stanford Center on Longevity and the Feminist Studies Program.
