Fat and Beautiful

Autor Karen Harmon, Linda Bonner
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 14 sep 2021
The name-calling and hurtful actions from others began the day Linda entered the public school system. Searching to belong, she learned quickly that a snappy comeback was her best defence. Born in 1947, just after the Second World War, into a home of loving parents, eccentric grandparents and a few unconventional relatives, Linda was a precocious, happy child. Regrettably, she was bullied in life as she struggled with obesity. Her saviour was "anything western": television shows, movies, horses, dude ranches and eventually cowboys. With many obstacles along the way, Linda blazed a trail from Vancouver's big city to the dusty Cariboo to follow her dream of horses, ranches, and riding. Linda's story is heartwarming and heart-wrenching, uncommonly adventurous and unusually comical. Anyone who has struggled with not fitting into what society thinks to be "normal" will find Linda's experiences encouraging and relatable. Allow Linda to inspire and remind you that it is not about the happily ever after, it is the joy you create along the way when it seems the world is against you that matters. Karen Harmon is the author of two previous award-winning books: Looking for Normal and Where is My Happy Ending? A Journey of No Regrets. Fat and Beautiful: A Story of Love, Pain and Courage is another book to add to Karen's collection of memoirs filled with family drama, humour and nostalgia.

Notă biografică

Karen Hamon is a wife, mother, fitness instructor and special-needs teaching assistant in the city of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. However, her more recent accomplishments would include writer and author. Her first book, an awarding winning memoir called Looking for Normal, tells the true story of her parents who both grew up in dysfunctional homes during the depression era. It deals with mental health issues, addiction and raising a healthy happy family against all odds. With over sixty reviews on Amazon, Good Reads and Indigo, the common theme is that her book is heartwarming and heartbreaking. Her second memoir, Where Is My Happy Ending? A Journey of No Regrets dates back to the 1970s, 80s, and 90s and tells the true story of Karen's struggles after leaving home at the age of seventeen. From the disco scene to becoming a single mother her story is relatable and offers insight into the healing process. Karen's storytelling ability, sense of humour and matter-of-fact way of looking at life is enjoyable, refreshing and said by many to be life-changing. Her all-encompassing mantra has always been to inspire and find the silver lining. This is evident from how she instructs fitness, to the many school-age children she has helped over the years, and comes out in both of her books. Karen's hobbies are writing (which she sets time aside for every Sunday) and cycling. She has enjoyed biking with the same friends over the past thirty years as far away as Nova Scotia, Montana and closer to her home on the west coast. With a substantial number of followers on Instagram, Karen enjoys conversing about writing, fitness and living life to the fullest.
