The book tries to answer the most fundamental question of whether there is a link between abundant food supply and economic growth with respect to a higher degree of human development. In order to have flourishing economic growth within a country the need for a food security system is a must. The world as we know is faced with shortages of food supply which has been a major factor in the country's economic development. The book is an attempt to understand the problems and current situation of food systems in the developing world. It focuses on the pathways to understand the challenges that it faces and predict future scenarios. The motive is to create academic literature to understand the basis of sustainable food security. The social, economic, and political factors become the main theme of the book. It focuses on the interdisciplinary nature of food security. Many a time we only understand the idea of food security through the lens of scientific nature but in the meantime, it forgets the other important factors that are governing the issue of food security. The inclusion of the cases section in the book helps to outline the current scenarios of the developing world. It helps to formulate a pathway or a way forward to understand the causes of food security. Food has now become a political context in the international system. The need for analyzing the political angle is necessary. The context of innovations and technological developments forms an important part of food security. The critique of existing policy systems across the developing world is a must need discussion as it is the policies that will make the food systems sustainable. Last but not least is to look at how the global food systems work and how far it has been able to fix the problems of food insecurity in the developing world. Overall, the book is an excellent interdisciplinary food security literature.

Notă biografică

Dr. Pardeep Singh is presently an Assistant professor (Department of Environmental Studies, PGDAV College, University of Delhi New Delhi, India). He obtained his master’s degree from the Department of Environmental Science at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India and his doctorate from the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) in Varanasi. He has published more than 85 papers in international journals in the field of sustainability, climate change and environmental pollution. He has also edited more than 65 books with various global publishers. 
Bendangwapang Ao is a Research Scholar at the Centre for African Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. He has done his Masters from the Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal and has an MPhil in Science Policy from the Centre for Studies in Science Policy, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Previously, he worked as an assistant manager in agriculture and ruralbanking at Axis Bank India. His area of interest includes environmental policy, climate change, environmental refugees, international relations and the politics of climate negotiations.
Dr. Nabajyoti Deka is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Management Studies at the University of Delhi, India. He is a Ph.D. in Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India. His research experience and interests include projects that seek to address some of the critical economic, social, and environmental challenges that lie in the intersection of agri-food systems/ agribusinesses, society, and climate change. He has published his work in reputed international journals.
Dr. Chandra Mohan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Finance and Business Economics at the University of Delhi. He has done his MPhil/PhD in Economics from the Centre for the Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University. His area of interest includes agriculture. He has taught subjects like microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, etc. His focused areas of research include agricultural sustainability, environmental economics, climate change, and economics. He has been involved in organising numerous conferences funded by ICSSR, UGC, etc. He is also a member of certain professional societies like the Indian Society of Agriculture Economics (ISAE) and the Agriculture Economics Research Association (AERA).Dr. Chhetan Chhoidub is an Associate  Professor in the  Department of Commerce, PGDAV College, University of Delhi, India. He has a PhD from Himachal Pradesh University, Summer Hill, Shimla, India.  His research experience and interests include projects that seek to address some of the social economic development and financial inclusion that lie in the intersection of credit schemes/agribusiness and the government's different schemes for financial inclusion. He has published his work in reputed international journals.
