Galileo in Rome: A Chronical of 500 Days

Autor Mariano Artigas, William R. Shea
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 22 noi 2012
New research shows the true reason why galileo was condemned.Galileo is one of a small group of thinkers who transformed Western culture. But to be at the forefront of ideas was a dangerous position to take at the turn of the sixteenth century, bringing the philosopher into constant conflict with the might of the curch. Galileo made six long visits to Rome in an attempt to get the church on his side. He was anxious to raise his profile in the Eternal City, where he spent some 500 days, meeting the pope, high-ranking ecclesiastics, and members of the literary establishment as well as other scientists. It offers a regorous, but easy-to-understand, account of what happened during Galileo's visit to Rome. In the end, he overplayed his hand and the outcome was his dramatic condemnation by the church. Based on extensive archive research, the author paint a far more complex picture of the actions and motivations of both sides than has been published before, and show how it is that Galileo's failure to impress the church has not prevented him from becoming one of the leading thinkers of the day.

Recenzii

By and large, the book is a lucid exposition of EU energy law and policy as it developed and as it is, in the light of the Third Enegry Package and directives required to be implemented by 3rd March 2011. it is highly recommended for lawyers, energy market professionals, students, academics engaged in or interested in EU energy law and policy. It is also a very useful textbook for understanding EU energy law and policy which should be available in libraries, especially within the EU.
In conclusion, this book is an accomplishment in encapsulating the range of legal issues in energy law in the EU. It required a mastery of legal, political and economic understanding to bring all the elements of energy law into one text. ... It is an ideal text for specialist and general practitioners, while it offers the academic instant access to the law and the important and emerging areas of policy and legislative conflict. There is not a more complete work on energy law in the EU and as such it will be seen as a pioneering contribution.
