Globalization, 3rd edition: Theory and Practice

Autor Eleonore Kofman, Gillian Youngs
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 27 iun 2008
This fully revised and updated textbook focuses on the major topics of globalization today.  These include the impact of migration, relations between the northern and southern hemispheres, how gender and power plays into the globalization process, and the politics and economics of freedom of movement in the world. Two new chapters on the impact of technology on global communications and the effect of the emerging economies of India and China bring the book fully up to date.  Further current issues such as the debate concerning environmental security, natural disasters, the broad spectrum between women's empowering impact in the marketplace and the continued exploitation of women in the sex and service trade are also examined. Eleanor Kofman and Gillian Youngs have edited an excellent and comprehensive collection essential for both undergraduate and graduate students trying to gain an understanding of theories and practices driving globalization as we enter into the twenty-first century.

Caracteristici

-The manuscript will be fully revised to contain up-to-date examples to illustrate the theories of globalization. Two new chapters will be provided. One will cover the effect of the emerging economies of India and China has had on globalization and the other will the huge impact the Internet has had on global communication.-We publised this second edition of this book at a time when we were running the social science list down. I feel that we can do so much better with this new edition by a proper marketing campaign including a text book mailing to key institutions. The contributors are truely international and we can use them to promote the book in these contries.-There are 64 dual honors degree courses in the UK for politics and globalization/international relations. On top of this most single honors politics degrees contain a module on globalization. A quick search on Amazon for globalization/international relations degree programs in the States reveals a long list of colleges including Boston University, University of Southern California, Western Illinois University and California State University. This book should be essential reading on these courses.
