Gulliver's Travels INTO SEVERAL Remote Nations OF THE World

Autor Jonathan Swift
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 31 mai 2023
Gulliver's Travels, Jonathan Swift's enduring masterpiece, is a wildly imaginative journey through the realms of satire, human nature, and the complexities of the world. Follow the adventures of the intrepid Lemuel Gulliver as he encounters the extraordinary inhabitants of fantastical lands, from the diminutive Lilliputians to the towering Brobdingnagians, and the enlightened Houyhnhnms to the brutish Yahoos. In this timeless tale, Swift deftly weaves a brilliant tapestry of biting social commentary, vivid satire, and profound insights into the human condition. Gulliver's escapades offer a scathing critique of political, social, and philosophical issues of Swift's time, while also delving into the absurdities and follies that persist to this day. A richly imaginative and thought-provoking work of literature, Gulliver's Travels is as much an entertaining exploration of far-off lands as it is a powerful reflection of the society in which we live. Join Gulliver on his remarkable odyssey, and embark on a voyage of discovery that reveals the folly, the wonder, and the inherent contradictions that define the human experience. This enduring classic continues to captivate readers of all ages, transcending time and space to offer a compelling, unforgettable journey into the heart of our world and ourselves.

Notă biografică

Jonathan Swift (1667 - 1745) was an Anglo-Irish satirist, essayist, political pamphleteer (first for the Whigs, then for the Tories), poet and cleric who became Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin. Swift is remembered for works such as A Tale of a Tub (1704), An Argument Against Abolishing Christianity (1712), Gulliver's Travels (1726) and A Modest Proposal (1729). He is regarded by the Encyclopædia Britannica as the foremost prose satirist in the English language and is less well known for his poetry. He originally published all of his works under pseudonyms - such as Lemuel Gulliver, Isaac Bickerstaff, the Drapier - or anonymously. He was a master of two styles of satire, the Horatian and Juvenalian styles. His deadpan, ironic writing style, particularly in A Modest Proposal, has led to such satire being subsequently termed "Swiftian".
