Heidi soon befriends her neighbors and residents of the mountain town, however after three years, Aunt Detie returns to bring Heidi to Frankfurt to be a hired companion to a girl named Clara Sesemann, the daughter of a wealthy family, who is regarded as an invalid. While the two become close friends, Heidi eventually develops an intense case of home sickness for the mountain home of her Grandfather and when the family doctor realizes the stress that she is under it is advised that she return to the mountains before she becomes terribly ill. A charming and uplifting story, "Heidi" is a classic coming of age story which addresses the difficulty in overcoming tragedy and finding one's place in the world. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper and is illustrated by Alice Carsey.

Johanna Spyri (Author)
Johanna Spyri (1827¿1901) was born Johanna Heusser at Hirzel, a pretty Swiss village about seven miles from Zurich, the daughter of a doctor, and one of a large family of children. She had a happy childhood, and married in 1852 a young lawyer friend of her brother's, Bernhard Spyri, moving to Zurich. The couple had one son, also called Bernhard, who never enjoyed good health, and his mother began making up stories to tell him. She first published one of these in 1870 to raise money for soldiers wounded in the Franco-Prussian War. Heidi was published in 1880, inspired by Johanna's love for the Alpine countryside of her youth, and was a great success from the start. In later life, after the death of her husband and son, Johanna took a young niece to live with her and devoted herself to writing and charity work. She published more than fifty books for adults and children, but none so famous as Heidi.

Heidi (1881) is a children's novel written by Swiss author Johanna Spyri. One of the best-selling books of all time, Heidi is not only a defining work of Swiss literature, but a beloved masterpiece of children's fiction.
