International Trade and Competition Law in Japan: Modern Japanese Law Series

Autor Mitsuo Matsushita
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 9 sep 1993
Modern Japanese Law SeriesThis new series has been established to provide scholars and practitioners with a library of books which deal with contemporary issues in Japanese law, particularly in areas of law which are of importance to the international business community. It will include books on Japanese labour law, the Law of Civil Procedure, Securities Regulation, and environmental law. Two volumes containing accurate and up-to-date translations of all the major Japanese Codes (Civil and Criminal) are planned for 1994. This book analyses the means by which the Japanese government regulates business activity, principally through the use of competition or anti-monopoly laws. These laws operate both within Japan and, to a lesser extent, beyond. The book also looks at legal aspects of industrial policy as well as the legal framework of foreign trade and investment in Japan. As such it goes to the very heart of industrial and commercial life in Japan, and will be of interest to all those who are involved in doing business with Japan, as well as to their legal and financial advisers.

Recenzii

`Especially timely ... a thorough study of Japanese regulation of business by means of trade laws and competition or anti-monopoly laws ... provides a valuable chapter on the legal framework of foreign trade and investment.'International Corporate Law
`easy to read and comprehensive in its analysis of trade and competition law ... The considerable reference to other works in the sub-notes was also a clear indication as to the depth of research that the writer had undertaken'Japan Contact
`very useful book ... the book is easy to read and is likely to be of great interest to someone seeking an introduction to the legal and regulatory framework applicable to business in Japan'International Company and Commercial Law Review
`This book ... meets a need for a clear introduction for both practising and academic lawyers to the principles of both Japanese trade and competition law. It deserves to be widely read on Law School courses in these areas: it will undoubtedly be widely used by practitioners ... works like Professor Matsushita's will be invaluable for English speaking lawyers in understanding how a different busines environment determines different responses to the same problems.'Lloyd's Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly
`This book can easily be recommended to scholars of comparative law and economics, and industrial organization. It is definitely a must for everyone who claims that Japan functions just like the US.'The Journal of Asian Studies
'Beyond the immediate practical value of this book to those working in Japanese trade law, or interested in contrasting legal systems, it is also to be recommended to anyone with a passing interest in the political minefield of international trade negotiations. The most striking factor to emerge from this interesting little volume is the regulatory and political nature of much of Japanese international trade and competition law...this book tells us much not only about Japanese law, but gives a refreshingly alternative view of international trade and competition law worldwide.'
