FROM THE ERA OF COTTONto the Golden Era of Space Exploration, Huntsville, Alabama and its people have played a distinctive and important place in the history of not only the Tennessee Valley, but the State of Alabama and the United States of America.
Our area contributes much to the lifeline and soul of so many in this heart of the South, especially as 2019 celebrates the 200th Anniversary of the State of Alabama and the 50th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing.
This anthology of history, music and art,Journeys of Huntsville, celebrates these themes in numerous articles, short stories, poems, and images. Included are several articles fromOld Huntsville Magazine, the Huntsville-Madison County Historical Society's journal -- theHuntsville Historical Review, the Historic Huntsville Foundation, and the Huntsville Museum of Art as well as short stories, poetry and related works from other local authors, writers and poets.
The book is segregated into sections representing "Music" (the Huntsville Master Chorale has music on the theme of the moon landing), "Art" which outlines the many events at the Huntsville Museum of Art that celebrate these 2019 anniversary themes, and "History." Many of the articles in the "History" section have been previously published in the sources above and are collected together to represent the themes of the anthology. All are of historical value. And last is a section on "History for Fun" which combines many personal memoirs of the moon landing and fictional short stories about the themes, many hilarious and others more serious. Sprinkled in between are many poems from local area high schoolers who placed in a contest run by the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library and the Huntsville Master Chorale.
The proceeds from this collection go to the Tennessee Valley's home of classical and modern chorale excellence and expression, the Huntsville Master Chorale, which on May 3, 2019 will premiere the original music for these themes in their production ofJourneys.
