This is an introductory textbook for learning Tajiki, the language spoken in Tajikistan (the official language), Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and, to a lesser extent, Afghanistan and western China. Tajiki is one of three dialects of Persian but has been influenced by Arabic and Turkish and has been written with the Cyrllic alphabet since around the 1940s. It is considered a strategic language by the U.S. government.
The textbook is broken into two continuous volumes (because of heft; total = 568 pp.) and is accompanied by 1 CD-ROM of audio and video materials (in Flash player) keyed by chapter, 1 CD-ROM of extra exercises keyed by chapter, and 1 volume of appendices (188 pp.) that includes extra grammar explanations, an extensive glossary, and maps of the world with countries written in Tajiki.
