Since the Fukushima nuclear accident, and in response to the enormous mitigation difficulties that continue in its aftermath, there has been a growing demand worldwide to increase the use of nonnuclear and renewable energy technologies. Although Fukushima has undeniably raised public awareness, whether governments in Asian countries can be counted on to engage serious legal and policy reform in this vital arena remains to be seen.
